About this Song

This song is a 70's/80's style pop song created in the style of Kool & the Gang and mastered with rich vocal harmonies and romantic comedy lyrics. I wrote and performed all the lyrics, while the core music was created by brilliant composer Mike Brassell who licenses many of his pieces to Prolific Arts.

Models Will Pollard and Vanadia Badillo took part in the filming of the video, which took place in Austin, Texas and was organized by Action Figure studios. Most of the footage was filmed in Zilker Park.

Lyrics
I see you walkin' by, but I don't know what to say
I don't even think you know my name

I want to say hello, what's your name
I watch you walk by every day
Oh yeah I really want to say
But the words the words they always slip away

What's your sign
A woman like you is hard to find
Tell me yours I'll tell you mine
If I could only find

the words that I wanna say to you
the things that I wanna do with you
it brings up the sober truth
I'm still afraid to talk to you

Oh please, I gotta get through to you
It seems so brand new with you
my dreams all come true with you
If you want me I want you too

[Chorus]
I see us doin' everything, everything
I just want you to know my name know my name
When you come near me I'm not the same, not the same
I just want you to know oh oh

I see us doin' everything, everything
I just want you to know my name know my name
When you come near me I'm not the same, not the same
Cuz I just want you to know oh oh

I'm thinking 'bout you when I fall asleep
We walkin' talkin' in my dreams, Lovin'
Lovin' in a thousand scenes
Then I wake up and the real world intervenes

Then you're not there
I gotta get up and catch some air
I find myself goin' back downstairs
Waitin' for you to reappear

Then you're suddenly here
My heart skips a beat as you walk near
But you don't even know I'm standin' right here
I can't say a word while I watch you disappear

Then I'm on my own again
Alone again my lover is gone again
I can't live if I let you go
So I just want you to know

I see us doin' everything, everything
I just want you to know my name know my name
When you come near me I'm not the same, not the same
I just want you to know oh oh

Thinkin' 'bout you puts me in a daze
I could love you in a hundred ways
with your perfect smile and your beautiful face
Shining on me like sunlight rays

I'd like to rock with you
Take your hand in my hand just walk and talk with you
Spend a lifetime tick tick tock with you
But I got a big mental block with you

Open my mouth brain goes DEAD
End up making funny sounds INSTEAD
All the poetry that was in my HEAD
Comes out soundin' like RE TREAD

I close my mouth and start walkin' away
And I hope to try again on another day
In the mean time I guess we'll be takin' it slow
Cause I just want you to know

I just want you
I just want you to know my name
I just want you
I just want you to see my face and smile
I just want you
I just want you to know my name
I just want you
I just want you won't you stay for a while

Artist Commentary

This is my thirteenth publicly-released music video and the first that explores a 70's-style music mix with a romantic comedy message.

Over the years, I've explored a wide variety of musical styles, including "angry white rap" (I Want My Bailout Money), "Al Yankovic" style comedy music (Dumb and Lazy), children's songs (Just Label It), spiritually-uplifting music (Revolution of the Heart) and trip-hop (Heaven Can Wait).

Since I hadn't attempted a 70's-style pop beat yet, I wanted to try that with "Just Want You to Know My Name." Next, I'm working on a Country Western style song, which looks to be the most challenging one yet. (Singing in a Country Western style is no easy task, but I do already have most of the chorus nailed, and it sounds great!)
